Advice Needed

Hi Guys,

Most of you know I’m not in the PW biz, but for a ‘weekend warrior’ I have a pretty decent toy. Northstar 4000psi, 4gpm. 13 HP Honda engine, CAT pump.

I have a rental house that I totally renovated last summer. My long-time renter (6 years) had moved, and while he was fantastic at tasks like “take the turbo intake off my car so you can replace the brake booster” he was garbage at tasks like “please cut the grass.” So the house needed TLC.

It’s cedar shake siding and one of the biggest improvements was when I pressure washed the house and re-stained. Pics show the house pre-wash, then post-wash, then the garage pic shows the resulting color of the siding after staining. The light boards on the ‘before’ pic are boards I had to replace courtesy of carpenter bees.

I didn’t use chemicals but rather just used the 25 tip and made sure to keep my distance and not hurt the wood. It turned out nicely, I think.

I was there this weekend and in some of the more shady areas there is some slight discoloration. Mainly black/green - right under where the gutters were plugged up - so likely just algae or mold/mildew due to splashback.

Do I need to PW again (lightly) or is there some chemical I can shoot these sections with then rinse and still be somewhat successful in terms of result?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

I would spray some normal hydrogen peroxide that you get at the local drug store. Color test first on a corner of the wood.

Little house wash mix with bleach will take the algae off. Spray on. Let sit. Rinse off.

It really needs a roof cleaning as well.

That pic was prior to the roof clean. But I agree. That’s why I cleaned it.

Then Michael decided it’d be fun to drop a pine tree on the back of it, so now we’re making the transition from ‘clean’ to ‘new’.
