Acceptable starter rig?

@Hotshot is there a formula available for figuring different setups? Or is this just something picked up through experience?

Again all of that was just my opinion.

Iā€™m tracking, thanks again for offering good advice.

Best formula I know is .
PSI Ɨ GPM Ć· 1000 = needed horsepower.
And here is a tip.

@Greenman, If you read on here enough over the winter and save your coin till late November, I promise you youā€™ll get a good 5.5,or 8gpm hot skid used for around 4k. And more Ego and knowledge in that noggin of yours to PW the first ladyā€™s butt crack with all the confidence in the world by late March. Just hold up a little, the season is almost done. Unless your a Truck washer, like me. Iā€™m to stupid and greedy to take the winter off. Lol

@Hotshot can those hot rigs be run cold? Is there any damage or reason not to use them without the heating elements?

Yep. No problem, there designed to run either way. Cold will save you on dropping coin on diesel fuel to make the water hot. But if your sticking to residential only ,donā€™t waste your money. But if you get a hot skid ,you got the upper advantage and can do it all.
Thatā€™s why Iā€™m saying to research on here. Thereā€™s fellas on here with almost 30 years of experience in this industry, and there invaluable info is free to read at a click of a button.

Will do Sir, thanks again.

Anytimeā€¦ Thatā€™s what this place is all about bubby. PWRA is a gold mine with cool cats on here that have PW in there blood and are addicted to it. Youā€™ll find out who to listen to and follow on here. Just takes time. Good luck man.

Its basically my machine. I took a 4 gpm pump off my pressure pro 4x4 and swapped to 5.5. I think its great. Does all I need it to do. Plenty of pressure and just the right flow. Any more gpm and you need a large buffer. I run a 50 and dont carry water so this is really the most pump I can use as Im set up.

Iā€™ve started a small pressure Washing business with Hopeā€™s of growing into a self sustaining business. I started with my home pressure washing which incidentally died during my first paid job. I purchased a $300 one from northern tool, which I know is too small. Iā€™ve had 6 paying jobs which has more than paid for the $300 system. Iā€™m now doing research on which system to purchase moving forward. My primary business model is to seek commerical accounts as well as residential property excluding roofs at the present time. Iā€™m looking for ideas on a skid or trailer mounted system that I can use to grow my business. I do have a home owners surface cleaner that I know I must replace with a commercial grade one. Any suggestions on a good system that I could use to cut my time on per job but increase my productivity and professionalism? Not oppose to
suggestion nor guidance. I have a business license havenā€™t found an insurer yet.

You need a buffer tank for a 5.5 gpm

Yes. Older houses around here have crap built up in the pipes. Without a buffer I can tell when someone in the house is using water. Iā€™ve done a few that I had to wait on my tank to fill. I got by with 4gpm. 5.5 pushed me to need a buffer. Itā€™s a measure of safety for my pump also.

I wasnā€™t askingā€¦ I was stating a fact. The new guys on here need the correct info to do there research is all. So they donā€™t burn there pump down

How is this possible? Iā€™m only able to burn one up. Am I doing something wrong? Must have something to do with me soaping right to left and left to right instead of the house wash guys that soap bottom to top.

Suns coming up @dperez . Ainā€™t you sleepy yet ?

:joy::rofl:
ā€¦

I recently bought a 4gpm, 4000psi unit with the 390 Honda motor. I also bought a 16in Whisper Wash for flat work. I picked up a ball valve, jrod, tips, chemicals, downstreamer, etc. I absolutely love my new setup.

Iā€™ve been power washing old school for over 20 years, since the late 90s. I have no clue why I waited this long to start downstreaming!?! If you donā€™t want to mess with the buffer tank and what that entails, you better buy a smaller unit. If that doesnā€™t bother you, fire away.

Donā€™t remind me, Iā€™m feeling it but I havenā€™t even had breakfast
