I’m setting up my 12v reel and based on advice from other forum members, I’m going to use the hose for storage only, and set up a few sections of hose.
My question is what’s the best way to connect those 12v hose sections? I was planning on just using 1/2" stainless quick connects, but wanted to run that by the group to make sure I wasn’t making a mistake if there’s clearly a better way.
Why? Buy however many feet of hose you need and put on reel. I don’t know anyone who does decent business that puts their soft wash on in sections. I don’t know of a single person that does over $250k/yr that does that. The reels are made to work
We don’t run chems through the reels…the innards got messy really quick. Sections is a whole other thing…run 150-200’, and carry a spare/emergency add on just in case of you want.
Rick, thanks for the clarification and the perspective. I think I just got turned around re: sections of hose.
Regarding disconnecting the hoses, I’m starting out with reels that have regular steel manifolds, so my goal is just to take care of them while I build things up. Thanks again.
Thanks Jason. I was reading a lot about people putting their hoses in sections, but maybe those were high pressure hoses.
Do you use a 1/2" quick connect both your high pressure and 12v hoses to the reel, and then simply move them over to a QC on the static plumbing after unreeling it? I’m just wondering if the higher SH % on the 12v system will be too hard on those QCs.
This is how I roll! (get it?) It takes 5 seconds to disconnect & reconnect however much hose is necessary without running through the reel. It also takes about 5 seconds to clear the soap out of a 50 section at 4gpm. I think it’s awesome everyone has a totally unique set up. Plug BB King into Eddie Van Halen’s guitar rig, he’d have to spend 30 minutes figuring out what all the pedals & gadgets do.
I’ve got reels 6-8 years old that I’ve never had to do a thing to the internals and that’s both my soft wash reel and my pressure reel with my standard HW is SH and Elemonator. Run high heat thru them too often. I do flush at EOD religiously though for about 45 seconds. Back to training and checklists for your guys, lol.
I didn’t know the Van Halen guy played guitar until he was in the news earlier with his passing. I thought it was just the name of a rock band. You can’t pull off just the house you need if you have to pull off a whole section. Hannay reel is $300 and will last for ten years of bleach running thru it. That’s like $2.50 a month and you’ll be so much faster than those guys messing around hooking and unhooking hoses from reels
Bull. I run 2 -100 sections. Sometimes I only need 50’ sometimes more and a lot of times I change my mind when I get on the far end of house. So I’d be pulling off all 200’ 80% of the time, going to get all tangled up, etc and then you have to pull it out from your pile as you go. No way you do that in 5 sec. Heck I can have 1/3 of the house soaped before you get ready.
I have Hannay reels. I’ve just been using them to store the hose in 50 foot sections, so I have to round off but I would much prefer to run 100 foot hose than 250 when it’s an option. You need to listen to more rock & roll sir!
You have to drag the hose around anyway. It takes 5 seconds to disconnect a quick connect & hook it to the injector. 50 foot sections! And I don’t doubt you can beat me in a race haha.
Really appreciate that advice. I think I have good reels (Hannay), they just don’t have the SS manifold so I was planning to be cautious. But if you’re saying flushing the hoses at EOD has kept your reels going that long, I’ll just do that and won’t worry about it.
