12v, here I go

Had enough with the portable unit, decided to start piecing together a trailer mounted DIY system. Heading to Southside tomorrow, so far I’m looking at a 7gpm pump, u-channel reel, 200-ish feet of 1/2" hose, Costco marine deepcycle battery, switch etc. I already have a proportioner.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Rural King sells Remco pumps. Their 5.5 and 7 GPM pumps have served me well. Good price, easy to replace.

What are you mainly going to use it for?

Everything except roofs, so treating walkways and drives, very dirty whiskey fungus houses, stubborn brick chimneys etc.

If you’re not doing roofs and don’t need stronger than 5:1, the gun I use is a cheap and easy alternative to a 12v system. All you need is this gun, jug of SH and a garden hose. The expandable ones work great and a 100’ one is very small and easy to carry around. Using a stronger mix you’ll go through a lot more than a normal HW mix, so I recommend rigging up a larger jug than 1 gallon. I have a 2.5 gallon I use when pretreating driveways and usually just go 10:1.

Only downside is with normal water pressure you’re not going to spray high enough for house washing. But for pretreat & post treating flatwork its a good alternative.

I already have a portable 12v, just tired of hauling the 5 gallon premix around and running out too fast, having to draw more SH out of my main tank and hiking down the hill to spray more.

Don’t mess around and get yourself a 7gpm 100 psi 12v pump. That’s what I had (have still but no longer use) and couldn’t imagine having less flow and PSI. Also, I just replaced both of the Remco pumps (made in USA) with the Delavans (made in China) and already both delavans pumps giving me issues. Spend the extra money and get ones made in the US. Additionally (supposedly, I’d actually like to confirm this, anyone?) some companies like pressuretek and Powerwash.com modify the pumps and have better seals to hold up the sh better. Just make sure that every time you are done using SH to flush it out really well.

My first pump was a fatboy, and it started springing leaks. I do need to rinse it out better. I just installed a Delevan to replace it hoping it would last longer. The Delevan I received says made in USA.

Interesting, I’ll look at mine shortly when I go outside. Maybe I’m thinking of a different brand.

Took your advice and got the last Remco at Rural King. Now I need to wait for the stacker kit for the hose reel and get a decent deep cycle.

Costco sucks, Sams club is where the cool cats hang out.

Where are you guys getting a good deep cycle from?

Sams, walmart, batteries plus. They’re all around $110-120. You want a group 27 deep cycle/ marine battery Auto parts stores have them but usually a little more there.

I have a 12v setup for concrete and stucco. I hate it. Every season something fails, either the pump, accumulator or valves. They leak when they fail and causes another issue. I’m thinking about ditching it for an X-jet. I’ve never used one but sounds easier to maintain and easy to use which a must for employees.

Another question, I got another 12" reel to stack on my existing one, will 200’ of Ag 1/2" fit comfortably or should I take it back and get a 18" that hangs from the ceiling?

A 12" titan will hold 200’ of 1/2"

250 feet on my 18 inch real fits pretty well. I believe 200 feet will fit on that. I know for Hannay they tell you how many feet of a diameter of hose can fit on a specific rail. See if the website specifies

I have never used an accumulator on any of my 12v pumps and I’ve gotten great service life out of them. The Remco Fatboy is my favorite by far but the Northern Tool ones are okay. Long as you flush them when you’re done they should last a good while. I usually flush mine with five gallons of water between jobs then do a 15 minute flush at the end of the day.

I flush them very well. I know my employees are not flushing them every time. I also don’t use it a lot with sh sitting in it for days or even weeks doesn’t help.

Ah well there ya go. Just start taking it out if their paychecks when they last any less than two months
