12v for Roof Pump

What battery do you guys use for your 12v roof pump. Last year I used my deep cycle trolling motor battery. As needed. Worked fine.
Looking to get new battery and make it part of my system. How do you guys keep yours charged? Is there a solar panel that can be mounted and stay connected that will keep it charged?

I only use mine maybe 2X a week so don’t need to run it dead and charge it daily. Might do 1 or 2 roofs a week and a little concrete and brick spraying.

Thanks in advance😀

Best bet is an AGM deep cycle. Get a name brand battery, exide, interstate, etc, not a store brand. I have lost my faith in OPTIMA, they now have a failure rate around Walmart batteries…

ALWAYS charge it the same day as you use it, never use it then let it sit for days before you charge it, batteries don’t like that!

Just get a large deep cycle group 27 battery. I have both those and AGM. On bigger jobs find the agm loses power a little more quickly.

I agree, the AGM has a lil higher voltage when it’s full, but it does drop off a lil quicker. BUT they don’t sulphate as fast so theoretically the will last more cycles. If u want a real surprise try out your roof pump with the charger connected, I won’t believe the difference between 12.7 volts and 14.7!!

LOL, you’re right. I carry an extension cord and a charger with me just for that reason. Especially on a big job you can really see the difference after an hour or so running w/o and then plug charger in.
