Gutter Grenade Advice

There are quite a few threads about F13 already but most of them are very old at this point so I thought I would bring my questions up in a new discussion…What I’m trying to figure out is what I can safely use it on. The other day I removed tiger stripes from a section of new gutters (< 1 year old) and I was very happy about that. Then, I went around to the side of the house where the gutters were much older and stripped all the paint clean off my test section. I was using 10:1 dilution…I would very much like to advertise gutter whitening as it’s such a great add on service. However, I am honestly nervous about using it. There aren’t any good “How To’s” out there. How can I tell what kind of gutters I can safely use it on? Newer, white gutters only? Gutters that have factory paint only? Is there an obvious difference between factory paint and after market paint? What do you guys do if you accidentally strip the paint off? Am I over thinking this? Help a brother out. Thanks.

Hey Joe make sure you carry some spray can paint for them gutters, with some experience you will get the hang of it.

I’ve been using it at 20:1, applying by brush (1gallon of solution in a 5 gallon bucket goes a looooong way!) and then rinsing immediately…it’s been coming out great, with no eased up (or missing) paint!

The stuff is awesome…you won’t have to worry too much in Florida but the only downside is that it doesn’t work well in temps below 60 degrees…I do just like Jesse as far as applying and a 5er of it goes for a long time

What they said. I rinse with a garden hose. No need for the pressure washer.

Also ALWAYS pre-wet the siding below and around the area you are applying Gutter Grenade. Just in case.

Thanks, guys. That’s all great advice. Anyone ever used it on gutters that aren’t white? Is that a no-no?

Does anyone know the difference between gutter grenade and gutter zap.
Been using gutter zap for years but always interested in new products.

Haha damn that’s a good question!!

I can’t recall using it on any others colored gutters. Hopefully someone who did will share their experience with us!

As far as I know, the GG’s job is to take a thin layer (the oxidized layer) of paint off, so color shouldn’t matter. You might want to double check that with Bob though, just to be safe.

20:1 = 1 part chem and 19 parts water

you are using a 5:1 or 20% solution

Actually he is using 1:4 ratio. 1 gal of F13 and 4 gal of water. Which is indeed 20%

No, I’m putting one gallon of 20:1 solution into a five gallon bucket…Not one gallon of GG into 5 gallons of water…Sorry, I guess I was a little fuzzy in how I described that in the earlier post.

OK I see now. So you pre-mix it and carry it with you in a five gal bucket with a lid.

I just mix it one job at a time.

I don’t do a whole lot of gutter whitening, and I have REALLY limited space, so I don’t keep it pre-mixed.

Plus, I can really cut down on waste. The solution is usually too gross to use on more than one job, so it gets discarded after the job is done. So, if I’m doing a really small job I’ll just mix like half a gallon or something like that.

One thing I forgot to mention, on larger jobs I just add water to the mix as needed. This, obviously, dilutes the mix, but it still does great! I love GG!

(Haven’t tried Gutter Zap, but I went with GG after researching the two extensively and finding that people seem to have a lot better success with GG)

I reuse every drop, being “gross” does not affect its proformance

what is your 20:1 solution?

Same here. It can be black as tar, it still works and I still use it. Plus when it’s dirty you can see it to make sure it doesn’t dry.

1 part GG, 20 parts water
