I think it’d be good if we all posted a link to our Facebooks on here, and did a sort of “like swap.”

I have done some like swapping before but I have been thinking…
What do you think we gain by liking or having others like our pages that will never be in our client base?
Are likes important to any platform outside of FB?
I’m currently running a “drawing” campaign on my FB page to gain likes so don’t think I’m saying we shouldn’t do it. I’m just curiuos to what end is it useful? My hope is always to reach more potential clients within my geographical area and I guess it’s always a good thing to network with other contractors. What I don’t understand is, I have seen some businesses try to generate quantity over quality of likes. I guess I’m asking, is there any SEO value to having more likes on your page no matter the value of those likes?

I’ve pondered the same thing as most of my likes are not in my client base. Recently I read the best way to get your fb page to work for you is to make it fun/interesting and interactive. not just pure business, so the more likes the more action I would suppose. I believe there are more benefits in having a higher number of likes, maybe someone can tell us what they are

Likes can add “social proof”. If you perceive that others of your peer group like something are doing something it makes it more likely you will too.

So these likes from friends help make it more likely customers and potential clients may like us too. Those are the ones that matter more. Though FB is a limited media unless you are paying to boost your post.

Additional having more likes make it more likely more will see your post. Only a certain percentage of those who like your page will see your post without paying to boost it.
