Work/personal Vehicle

I haven’t even been at this for 2 months yet, a unit fell into my lap and the next day someone traded my car for a dodge 1500 4th with a ranch hand tow package with no problems, not only did it make an instant company opportunity these boards have given great advice, and a competitor I bought a used surface cleaner from not only has been mentoring me he has hired me to do some work with and for him, I’m only 14 jobs into my new “company” I have a website business cards good reviews and lots of word of mouth, for 14 jobs in less than 8 weeks without lettering, I’d say that’s a good start I agree it needs to be done as well as a “uniform” my truck is my work truck but only because I can use my wife’s car and the trail wet is a pain to hook back up, I watch countless YouTube videos and try and absorb as much info as I can, the right way and the wrong way, why would you want another company to fail? Is the confidence in your workmanship so low that you count on being the only person in town so you can get the job? Someone helped you along the way you didn’t wake up with the knowledge and didn’t figure it out yourself, there is enough work for everyone just not enough quality for competition

You’re silly.

No one helped me along the way. I didn’t wake up with the knowledge either. I figured it out on my own. There was no such thing as you tube and forums when I started. Good luck with your business. Toy are going to need it. If you are still in business a year from today I’ll give you $100 credit at Pressure Tek. I lay odds you have no insurance, workers comp or commercial equipment.

I do have insurance, only worker so no workman’s comp, commercial ins. On my truck and trailer with usaa, it’s a Northstar, I know a piece of crap, but with it and the measly amount I have invested, I pray I’m in business a year from now too. I’m a machinist by trade and lost my job due to an eye disorder, this is an opportunity for me to feed my family, I want to do it right, I want to do it legally, I want to learn from veterans so I don’t make mistakes they did, I want to provide for my family, I’m not looking to have a fleet of vehicles and an army of employees I’m looking for an honest days work, friends and family have let me work on their properties to hone my skills to learn to test and another company has allowed me to shadow them and work with and watch how they do business, I’m not ashamed of where I am and I am humbled by the opportunity that has been given me and am trying to do the best that I possibly can, what’s wrong with that?

There is nothing wrong with that. When you accuse someone of having had their business built by someone else or tell them that they did not do it their self you sound like Obama. Nothing wrong with wanting other business to fail. Piggly Wiggly doesn’t send encouraging messages to Food Lion telling them they hope they succeed. Do well for your self and collect my $100. Man up and don’t rely on others to provide you knowledge.

The boards are a great place to test and ask questions to help refine your process and quicken the learning curve, with a open mind you can accomplish much more at a much quicker pace with the help of others then you can with your self. How ever don’t take that to mean rely on others. Remember the old saying two heads are better then one. Give and give back

Right, as in everything. Trust but verify…I am learning more than I thought there was to Learn on the process of power/pressure/softwashing

I just wanted to know where do you guys park your trailers at night ? Especially for the home based businesses…

Mine is a small Northstar that easily fits in my garage

We live in the country on 8 acres…so just about anywhere. Clearing some land behind the shop to get equipment out of the front yard. Can’t imagine living in the (a) city.

That is actually something I’m worried about… my HOA is brutal… I found a rig I want but I just don’t know about putting it in the garage… we are the 3rd house on our street and Id basically would have to stop traffic to back it into my drive way… I thought about renting office space with warehouse space but those are around 1800 a month… I just don’t think I can justify that expense… maybe I should just sell the house and move…lol. Would you guys rent out space to others in a warehouse setting or do you think that’s to much liability?

There should be several “Gated” storage facilities in most areas. Maybe look into these. If you go this route make sure you insure your equipment. Just an idea.

I did think about those… but just felt dropping 10k on equipment and leaven it in a storage facilities would not be good…

I rent a storage space for all my accumulated “stuff”. Already scoped out a parking spot for box truck or enclosed trailer. There are three pressure washing companies and several contractor’s that park there. Gates and cameras, you’re not going to get better than that. I see several open trailers parked at the RV parks around here also, you have to get over the fear and use common sense. I am in the same boat as you, HOA rules as well as county rules…No commercial vehicles parked in residential areas. That’s why I still am using magnets for my truck, and I got rid of my little landscape trailer, I am trying to get by with truck mounted equipment. Just upgraded to 10 gpms. Truck is starting to bulge at the sides!
I look at it this way, If(when) I park at the storage facility. I can get my truck and trailer wrapped. That’s a definite!

It takes 10 seconds to back into a garage. People will get over it.

Ask around at businesses that already have warehouses. One might rent a bay or a parking space to you at a cheap price.

Our ‘multi-purpose’ vehicle. If we need to go somewhere that the lettering isn’t appropriate, we ride along with a friend or family member and chip in generously towards their gas.

Do what it takes; focus on growing the biz to the point you can afford to buy a personal vehicle in cash. And even then, carefully weigh the need vs. want factor.
