No apologies needed. But I accept.

You will notice that I do try really hard to title my infoposts in a way that will help future searchers so if somebody wants to start a new thread from this one, do so with a title like “How many calls will I get when I send postcards” or similar.

Bottom line, if I can get a discussion going that ultimately improves someones business, I consider it a success.

I have done mailings in the past for another business. You cant look at it from the point of view that I sent out 500 postcards and only got 1 response. You also can not look at it from the point of view of a single mailing. Folks do not know who you are, why should they order your product.

Lets say you do nothing, no money invested, nothing gained. 0% return

You do 3 mailings of 1000 post cards, lets say the whole advertising campaign costs $800.00 and you get 5 sales for a total of $1250.00, so you made $450.00, some may say that in not much or not worth it, but you also have 995 other people with your postcard that may order in the future.

At the same time you have recouped your original $800.00 so now you can go out and target another neighborhood.

Back in the 90’s when was cleaning and sealing decks in New Jersey, I used to mail out postcards. This was when there was no eddm and bulk mail was it. I would hand stamp and label each postcard. Info USA used to sell a CD with names and addresses on it. I would send them to the same areas over and over.

The benefits from this did not become apparent for days, weeks, and even years. I have had people tell me that they had MY postcard hanging on their refrigerator for 9 months. I also advertised in the yellow pages and I would get calls from people who said they have heard of me, and they wanted an estimate. They heard of me from my postcards!

The more your name is in front of people, the more calls you will get. If you get a 1.5% ROI on the postcards, you still are getting the benefit of having your name floating in the minds of everybody who has seen your mailing. The next time these people go looking for pressure washing, your name will carry some weight in the grand scheme.

If you are not in it for the long haul and are just looking for a quick score , then eddm postcards probably isn’t for you. I know for a fact that even if you think it isn’t working, it is. Unless your message and mailing stinks that is.
