All you soft washing experts!

By the way if you don’t have a j-rod 4 way you need to get one. It’s a life saver having 4 soft wash nozzles with you all the way around the house.

Or better yet, just get a M5DS adjustable nozzle

stupid question… should i be using the pressure regulator on my washer or regulate it using tips. We never had an issue before because we only used the low pressure tips

Once you’re pressure regulator is set correctly on your machine, DON’T touch it. Use tips. I’ve got 100’s of hours on some machines and have never touched my regulator.

we have 2 brand new machines last season and havent touched the regulators. We havent needed to! just wanted to see what everybody else was recommending

That’s pretty cool I will definitely order one and try it out. Are they pretty durable?

What is your opinion on the x-jet? It seems like it would be a headache and something else to drag around.

completely off topic but how does everybody move their washers around as far as when youre washing a house? We currently have an extended car with 2 truck mounted washers, i believe it looks more professional than pulling the washers around behind you. However, it can be a pain in the ass at times!

Yep, basically same nozzle as Xjet with bigger openings

Just another tool. Has it’s uses. don’t use mine a lot but if you need more chems on a particular application, it will do it. If you already have a 12V pump wouldn’t worry about too much because you can use your roof pump too if you need a stronger mix

Thanks for the info. I’m definitely ordering one of those nozzles.

you guys also use straight 10% sh on roof mixture? how does it d on getting those pesky black runs off?

As far as I know no one is using straight SH. At the most people usually go is 50/50. So if that’s 12% SH they’re putting out 6% with a roof pump. If you use a down streamer then that dilutes the mix and you usually get a 10/1 water/ SH output. But you would probably only want to go that hot if you’re cleaning roofs. Most people just use the down streamer for siding. Or if it’s a really tough job then that’s when the x jet will come in handy. Because it has a variable injection rate.

So cut the SH even when down streaming? I’ve been getting so many mixed answers… some are saying straight 10% SH when DS because it will be diluted enough for vinyl siding.

What about for roofs? 10gal H2O/1gal SH?

I would always start with a weaker mix and work your way up, at least until you get an idea of what’s effective with your setup. No need to have your solution excessively strong.

I’ve found a ratio of 7 parts bleach, 3 parts water to be effective for most house washing with my setup, and that’s using dollar store concentrated bleach at 8.25%. That works out to approximately 5.5% SH in my bucket. To get the same dilution with 10%, you’d want about 5.5 parts bleach and 4.5 parts water, plus your surfactant (soap).

You can always go stronger if you need to. But if the algea and growth are just melting off the second your soap hits the siding, you’re running your mix too ‘hot’, and taking a gamble with plants and other things sensitive to bleach.

One reason you’ll get so many varying answers on what mix to use, is because draw-rates differ between machines and injectors. Larger machines draw at a lower rate, and therefore need a stronger mix to start with. An 8gpm machine won’t draw at a full 1:10 ratio.

Roofs are another animal altogether. I don’t do them, but from what I’ve read, typical mixes run between 30%-50%, using 12.5%. That mix is then applied straight to the roof with a dedicated chemical pump system. So the actual SH content hitting the roof is somewhere around 3.5%-6%. Whereas siding typically requires only 0.5%-0.75% SH after going through the DS injector.

For most shingle roofs I run 3-3.5% applied with a roof pump. For tile you’ll need slightly stronger. Lot of things come into play though, roof pitch, whether there are gutters, amount of landscaping, etc.
